apraxia of speech

Conditions

Also known as: apraxia, childhood apraxia of speech, CAS, verbal apraxia, AOS, acquired apraxia of speech, verbal dyspraxia, dyspraxia of speech, speech apraxia

A motor speech disorder where the brain has trouble planning the movements needed to produce speech. The person knows what to say but can't reliably get their mouth to do it. Different from dysarthria — it's a planning problem, not a muscle weakness problem.
