Also known as: Teacher of the Visually Impaired, teacher of students with visual impairments, TSVI, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Teacher of Visually Impaired Students
TVI stands for Teacher of the Visually Impaired, a specialist trained to provide instruction and support to students who are blind or have low vision. TVIs assess how vision loss affects learning, teach braille, train students on assistive technology such as screen readers and refreshable braille displays, and work with families and school teams through the IEP process. When a child or student is using vision-related AT, a TVI is typically the key professional who configures the tools, trains the user, and ensures the technology is integrated into the educational plan.
