Personal Sound Amplification Product — a consumer device with a microphone and earpiece that boosts nearby sounds for someone with mild-to-moderate hearing loss. Often used in restaurants, lectures, and one-on-one conversations. Sold without a prescription and not regulated as a medical device. Useful, but not a substitute for hearing aids fit by an audiologist.
