NFC

Technology

Also known as: Near Field Communication, near-field communication

Near Field Communication is a short-range wireless technology that lets a device read data from a small chip or tag when held within a few centimeters of it. In AT, NFC is commonly built into clothing labels, buttons, and stickers so that a smartphone or dedicated scanner can identify the item and speak or display recorded information — useful for people who are blind or have low vision to manage clothing, medications, or household items independently. No internet connection or pairing process is needed; touching or nearly touching the tag is enough to trigger it.
