FM

Hearing

Also known as: Frequency Modulation, FM system, FM assistive listening system, FM personal amplifier, FM listening system, FM assistive listening device, FM ALD

FM stands for Frequency Modulation, a radio transmission method used in assistive listening systems to send audio wirelessly from a microphone or sound source directly to a receiver worn by the listener. In AT, FM systems are widely used by people with hearing loss in classrooms, meetings, and public spaces to cut through background noise and distance. A transmitter picks up the speaker's voice and sends it over a dedicated FM frequency, while the listener's receiver delivers clear audio to earphones, hearing aids, or a neckloop.
