NLS
Vision
Also known as: National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, NLS/BPH, National Library Service
NLS stands for the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, a free U.S. Library of Congress program that provides accessible books and magazines to people who cannot read standard print due to visual impairment, blindness, or a physical or reading disability. Eligible borrowers receive materials in audio and braille formats, including digital downloads through the BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download) online service. For AT users, NLS compatibility is a key feature of dedicated audiobook players and other accessible media devices, since NLS-formatted content uses encryption that only approved playback devices can handle.
